housing de-wall
syntheses project | Belgrade, 2009.

In the residential part of the city,
where it appears that every living unit is locked inside its own private nucleus, project of housing block comes across as a counterpoint.
The wall, hermetic and impassable, is being dematerialized. The main element in the design is a glass curtain wall on a side of a building
facing the street. Even though it stands still, it mediates among the surrounding and the life inside. It blurs the boundary between the
reality and the illusion. Project isn’t aiming toward literal physical transparency. It is rather a research on transparency in thoughts
and relationships, based on a need for a fresh attitude on living in a community.
The apartment follows the idea of the
entire building. Losing the walls inside caused fragmented parts to be combined in a single flexible space. In a world of a variety
it is irrational to condemn a person on a strict system of square meters. Here, user is the final architect, who among the basic elements
chooses and combines the ones that suits him best. Consequently, the size of the apartment depends on the needs of the user.
When the mystery that wall contains vanishes,
a private realm becomes an open stage released from usual constraints. Stage enriched with unique lifestyles ideologies, which stand
before variety of different social, wealth and intellectual backgrounds. Privacy of thousand windows.
